| Mandarin/The StayLows/La Cacahouette Mon., September 27, 2004 ( TONIGHT!!!! )
Time: 9:00 PM Admission: $5-6 Venue: Mohawk Place, 47 E. Mohawk St., Buffalo NY (MAP) Details: Mandarin - Mandarin is a transport-thrill. Songwriter Jayson Wortham’s whispers are like souvenirs; reminders of quiet landmarks; the in-points for recollection; expression stripped to its core. These are the very smallest places he could begin – and it’s the perfect place to start – because in the hands of guitarist Matt Leer, bassist/keyboardist Peter Salisbury, and drummer Dave Douglas, Wortham’s hushed mantras often turn to contagion-code, grown from a singular, particulate, newly-expanding though. Their music is the brightest bloom from the blackest black, with all those fitful colors in between. Whatever the trigger is for Mandarin, the result for the listener is a very thorough conscience cleaning. RIYL: Polvo, Yo La Tengo, Bedhead, Pixies, Pseudosix
The StayLows - moody semi-instrumental indie rock with epic tendencies
La Cacahouette - Friendly neighborhood shoegazers
fun starts at 9!

| "Modernism is change as modernism is constant movement. It can't be understood without its eternal and incombustible mutation. Any association of modernism with a senseless repetition of bygone schemed is untrue and as such has to be rejected. From its birth modernism has been about energical evolution that rejected any kind of past tradition. It's when little cliches and past ticks are adopted as a definition of modernism when it loses all its meaning. A confusion is taking place between political and ideological foundations in one hand and those incidental details that can be used by modernists in very specific moments on the other. Thus, the adoption of a determined aesthetic is nothing more that one of the ways used to express a pure and perinnial idea, a way of giving shape to the modernists own soul. it's THE USE that its made of those elements what is important as opposed to WHAT'S USED. The tools used by modernists are decidious and can be easily outdated. The IDEA is immortal. The modernist is revolutionary as opposed to reactionary, and his movement is a direct consequence of his striving for the future. Modernism is therefore a passion guerrilla in an era of mediocrity and corporate lies."

| but here are some of the funny points.
Jim: alright lets go, god I fucking hate jersey Rick: I've never been to jersey Eric: me either, maybe we'll like it and stay for a while Jim: yeah.....maybe if I fuckin leave you guys there
Eric: "Jeff, you want to stop at burger king? didn't you see that movie that everyone else has seen?"
Steve: "I had sex in Willem Dafoes' house!!!! really....I''m serious I went out with his neice! it was HOT."
Rick: "...so in this video, there are a bunch of mentally retarded kids running around everywhere and they end up making out at the end of it.." Steve: "so your saying it was like a hardcore show."
*written on the street outside the house we played spray painted in super big letters* "Eric K. *hearts* boobs"
Drunk old man at the show: "youuuuu guys souuuunddd stellar!!! I can't hear the wooords though!!" Eric: "well, there really aren't any, at least not tonight." Drunk old man: "yeaaa!! youuuuu guys sound like YES!!!!"
Rick: "so whats going to happen to the first one of us to crap in the van then?" Jim: "I'll rub your face in it like a bad, bad dog"
Eric: "Not too sure about this song..." Jim: "You can't put syrup on a turd and expect it to taste good"
eating "scrapple", its like sausages without the skin.
also, people in New Jersey think I look like Seth Green, just like Buffalo.
yeah, so thats about it. The show went ok, plus we got payed well. other than that, New Jersey kind of sucks. The Kids there were either very shy or just dicks. some girl said that we sounded "epic" though. so thats a compliment right?
